SnapLedger Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how SnapLedger handles information when you use the SnapLedger application on iPhone and iPad. We wrote it in plain language so you can understand what stays on your device, what limited technical services we use, and what choices you have.
Who we are
SnapLedger is a privacy-first personal expense tracker for iPhone and iPad. It helps you record income and expenses, organize categories, manage recurring items, scan receipts on supported devices, and view insights about your spending.
Summary
Your financial information is stored on your device. SnapLedger does not operate a proprietary backend server and does not upload your ledger to SnapLedger servers.
The app works offline for its core features. It uses Google Firebase only for anonymous usage analytics, crash reporting, and remote feature configuration. Those services are not used to transmit your transaction amounts, merchants, categories, notes, receipt images, or other financial content.
Information stored on your device
When you use SnapLedger, the app stores information locally on your iPhone or iPad. Depending on how you use the app, this may include:
- Expenses and income entries
- Categories
- Merchants
- Notes
- Recurring transactions
- Budgets
- Insights data generated from your entries
- App preferences, such as currency settings
This information remains on your device. SnapLedger currently has no backend server that receives or stores your financial ledger.
Information we do not collect
SnapLedger version 1.0 does not require a user account and does not provide sign-in. There is no cloud sync of your financial information to SnapLedger servers.
We do not ask you to create a SnapLedger profile, and we do not run a SnapLedger cloud database for your expenses, income, or related ledger data.
AI features
On supported Apple devices, SnapLedger may use Apple’s on-device Foundation Models for features such as:
- Receipt scanning
- Merchant detection
- Category suggestions
- Financial insight generation
These AI features are designed to run on your device. SnapLedger does not send your financial information to SnapLedger servers for AI processing, because SnapLedger does not operate such servers.
AI suggestions and extracted values can be incomplete or incorrect. You should review results before saving them. Availability depends on your device and Apple system capabilities. When these capabilities are not available, related features may be hidden or limited.
Third-party services
SnapLedger uses Google Firebase for limited technical purposes. These services may process technical and usage-related information needed to operate them. They are configured so that your financial content is not included.
Firebase Analytics
We use Firebase Analytics for anonymous usage statistics, such as which screens are opened and whether certain actions succeed or fail. This helps us understand how the app is used at a high level.
Firebase Crashlytics
We use Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash reports and related diagnostic information so we can find and fix stability problems.
Firebase Remote Config
We use Firebase Remote Config to enable or disable certain features without requiring an app update. This helps us roll out or pause features safely.
Important: Transaction amounts, merchant names, categories, notes, receipt images, and other financial information are not sent through Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, or Remote Config.
Google’s handling of Firebase data is also described in Google’s privacy documentation for Firebase and related products.
Permissions
SnapLedger requests certain iOS permissions only when you use the related feature:
- Camera — used when you scan a receipt or bill with the camera.
- Photo Library — used when you choose an existing photo for receipt or bill scanning.
- Notifications — used when you enable reminders for recurring transactions.
If you decline a permission, the related feature will not work until you allow it in iOS Settings. The rest of the app remains available.
Export and import
You may export your data as a local JSON backup. You choose where to save that file on your device or in locations you control through the system share sheet.
SnapLedger does not receive a copy of your export. If you import a backup, the data is restored onto your device. You are responsible for keeping any backup files secure, because they may contain sensitive financial information.
How information is used
Information processed by SnapLedger is used to:
- Provide expense tracking, summaries, insights, widgets, and related features on your device
- Measure anonymous product usage through Firebase Analytics
- Improve stability through Crashlytics crash reports
- Configure feature availability through Remote Config
We do not use your on-device financial ledger to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell your personal information.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. Limited technical data may be processed by Google Firebase as described above, so the app can provide analytics, crash reporting, and remote configuration.
We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or to protect rights, safety, and security where we have a lawful basis to do so.
Retention and deletion
Financial and related app data stored by SnapLedger remain on your device until you delete them in the app, clear local data, overwrite them by importing a backup, or uninstall the app.
Exported backup files remain under your control for as long as you keep them. Diagnostic and analytics information processed by Firebase is retained according to Google’s practices for those services.
Security
Because your financial information stays on your device, protecting that device is an important part of protecting your data. We encourage you to use a device passcode and, where available, Face ID or Touch ID.
No method of storage or transmission is completely secure. SnapLedger is designed to keep your ledger local and to avoid sending financial content through the Firebase services described in this policy.
Children’s privacy
SnapLedger is not directed to children under 13, or under the minimum age required by law in your country or region. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app in a way that concerns you, please contact us using the details below and we will take appropriate steps.
International users and your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights related to your personal data, including under the GDPR and similar laws. In practical terms for SnapLedger 1.0, that often means:
- Access and portability — you can view your information in the app and export a JSON backup.
- Deletion — you can delete entries in the app, clear local data where available, or uninstall the app to remove on-device data.
- Restriction and objection — you can decline optional permissions and stop using features that rely on them.
- Questions or requests — you can contact us using the support email below.
Firebase may process technical diagnostic and analytics data in countries where Google operates, which may be outside your country of residence.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another region with similar rules, you may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and publish the updated policy at this website address.
If a change is material, we will take reasonable steps to make it noticeable, such as updating this page before or when the change takes effect. Continued use of SnapLedger after an updated policy is published means you accept the revised policy, except where applicable law requires a different approach.
